The journalist, author and environmental activist Pasko focuses during his investigative research on the ecological risks and the energy policy implications of the Baltic Sea gas pipeline. Gazprom is the largest shareholder of the pipeline consortium Nord Stream. The film begins in the north of Russia, where as early as 2005 the first phase of the project was completed. The expectations of the local population regarding new jobs and gas pipes in their homes have vaporised and it starts to dawn on them that all they get is a pipeline passing right under their nose, but all the gas is destined for customers in Western Europe. In 2007 and 2008 Pasko travelled along the entire proposed route of the Nord Stream pipeline by land, and later along the coasts of Sweden, Finland and Germany. He spoke with Finnish, Swedish and German politicians, mayors, and environmental activists. Pasko’s research documents the impact of the pipeline on the environment and on the people who live along the route.

Ladislav Starevich (1882-1965), a pioneer of puppet animation is one of the most forgotten film geniuses. His wizardry was born in Lithuania. He got famous in Russia. He then flourished in full flame in France. Who was he? This film decodes Starevich by using the means of his own artistic thinking, tiding together the factual information, archival footage and films made by Starevich.

The first film in the Seto language in the world speaks about the brightest hero of a small people, the folk singer Hilana Taarka, a woman who lived her whole life as an outcast in a small chimneyless hut; as an unmarried mother of children in poverty, begging her bread, doing odd jobs and singing. She always sang the truth, sometimes bitter, sometimes funny, sometimes cruel. She was feared, despised and coveted. Taarka sang throughout her remarkable life, throughout her fate, from a small Seto village to international fame. And she sang well. Really well. Taarka became the Mother of the Song, a legend. But as a woman, as a member of the community, the Seto people never really accepted her. Taarka – a despised woman and a worshipped singer.
