BEST OF BALTIC FILM FESTIVAL BERLIN 2009

December is going to be baltic again! The BALTIC FILM FESTIVAL BERLIN is presenting a BEST OF programme on Friday, 11.12.2009 at  Babylon cinema.  We are screening a selection of the recent festival in three blocks at  the following times: 18:00, 19:15 and 21:00. Wellcome to a winterly celebration of baltic films! Have a look at the films here.

DEAR GUESTS OF THE FESTIVAL,
the focus of the 5th BFFB is the main programme NEW BALTIC FEATURES, current feature films from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The coming-of age drama I WAS HERE by the Estonian film director René Vilbre is the opening film of 5th edition of the BALTIC FILM FESTIVAL BERLIN next Friday, 16 October 2009, at the Babylon cinema. We are glad to announce that the film director René Vilbre will be present at the screening. Immediately after that, we will celebrate the Festival's Birthday Party, with BALTIC BEATS performed by the great musicians Larry Mullins aka Toby Dammit (Iggy Pop, Swans) and singer and exceptional saxophone player Jessie Evans. With their exquisite set, Dammit and Evans will give you a proper warm-up for a whole week of Baltic cinema.

On Saturday at 20.00h, we will show the film VASHA by Hannu Salonen as a German premiere, in the presence of the film director and the actor Tim Seyfi.
A new element of the festival is the documentary program OPPOSITE SCREENS, with productions that are dedicated to the tension-filled processes in civil society, both in the Baltic States as well as in their neighbouring countries. On Tuesday, 20th October we present the documentary BURRIED AT SEA by Grigory Pasko in the presence of the director.

The BALTIC FILM FESTIVAL BERLIN, which has taken place every year since 2005, aims at promoting the perception and awareness of films and culture history of the three Baltic States and their current film industry, but also at starting a dialogue based on films between the Baltic film industry and film-makers in Berlin and Germany.
The following types of films are admitted: drama, animation and documentary. The particular situation of the three Baltic states in the tension field of their independence, regained 19 years ago, and their post-Soviet history asks for an increased visibility of these films.
